11-Month Update

Senna turned 11 months this Thursday, on her grandparents' (Megan's parents') 37th anniversary (happyhappy!).

She has been just in love with her daddy the past few days, saying "DaDA!" when she wakes up and when I'm on the phone (with anyone -- she always thinks it's Daddy) or if I look out the front window (where he parks his car). It's quite adorable.

She is also mimicking words a lot more -- this week we got "fish" (really a "fffssshhh" sound with no vowels) and "beach" (again, "bbbccchhh"). And she is comprehending so much! I was talking to Alex at dinner the other night and in the midst of fast grown-up conversation I said "banana" -- Senna instantly lit up from over in her booster chair, saying "bah! bah!", her word for banana.

She is also keen on pointing to different versions of objects she is learning about -- a butterfly in a book provokes her pointing to a butterfly magnet on the fridge, then back to the book; also with a snowman in the book and on her little Christmas tree, and a light on the ceiling and lights on the tree -- back and forth, she points and points. And if we say to her, "put the ball in the box," she follows the directions perfectly. She is really making connections!

Her crawl is bullet-fast now, and her standing is solid. She can let go and stand on her own for a few seconds, and can travel across and between pieces of furniture holding on with one hand.

And her favorite sport of the week is ripping up paper -- catalogs, mostly, and with aplomb. Of course she is learning the fine art of wrapping paper this week as well with Hanukkah, and Christmas to come.

Teething and eczema (thus, lots of night waking) are the not-so-fabulous flip side of all this rosey-ness, but she is still our happy girl generally speaking and we are fine to deal with these minor issues with our major joy of a little girl.

We'll try to get more video and/or photos up this weekend. Peace, love, and happy holidays to all!
