Gnome Day

Following in both her mother's and her father's childhood footsteps (unbeknownst to either of us until now), Senna has a big thing for gnomes!

We tell gnome stories and look for them outside and build them houses out of toilet paper rolls. We read gnome books (including all the non-scary parts of this classic, which I still had from my own childhood, complete with a "report" on gnomes I wrote in 1980).

Sen's new thing for gnomes all started with these little simple stuffed gnomes (below), which I got her for our Maryland trip and she fell in love with. It's progressed now to such gnome wonders as the awesome t-shirt she's wearing below, sent by Grandma Karen & PaDa, that says "To Gnome is to Love Me" (I giggle every time I look at it!).

The same day I took that photo last week, we went to the fabric store and found these tiny yard gnomes on sale for two bucks each. She put them by our front door and calls them our "welcome gnomes."

Here's a closer look at the welcome gnomes, complete with Senna's presents to them of pine cones (of course) and flowers.

By the way, she's into fairies, too. And catches them outside, and they share the toilet-paper-roll houses. Of course! ;)
