Summer of 08 Update

Three months? I haven't updated this blog in three months?! What am I, pregnant or something? Oh, yeah, that. Well, we are successfully through the first trimester and happily into the second, which means I'm not falling asleep at 7pm and growling at anything that crosses my path. So, now, three months later and almost five months pregnant, I'll fill you in on our summer.

What Senna Did On Her Summer Vacation:

1) Swim Lessons With Dad!! Every Saturday morning for five or six weeks. Alex said she was always the first in the water and the last one out, and she loved her lessons. The only hitch was her lack of fondness for putting her face in the water, but last week I spyed her practicing holding her breath and nose and closing her eyes -- practicing -- out on the patio by herself. And Alex said that part went much better at their last lesson yesterday.

2) Visits With Loved Ones!! We were thrilled to have a slew out out-of-town guests this summer: Grandma & Pada from Arkansas, Ashley & Family from Boulder, Uncle Dan, Aunt Betty & Cousin Brian from Maryland, Toja from New York, and of course our monthly visits from Nana in LA. Sen has taken to asking me each morning, "Who's coming today, Mommy?" Love it. (Oh, and we got to visit the "twin babies," cousins in OC, who aren't such babies anymore!)

3) Lots of Hanging Out!! As we'd hoped, we just did a lot of hanging out this summer, around home, at the local playground and beach. At the start of the summer, she was nervous to climb the ladders and slide at the park; now she is scaling the ladders of the tallest slides and zooming down -- always singing Mother Goose songs at the top of her lungs, of course. At the beach, she plays in the waves with Dad and after her first "wipeout," she came up sputtering and saying, "Again!"

4) Growing Up. Our little girl gained three inches of height, a couple inches of hair, and a full clothing size this summer (her shoe size has stayed the same, though -- Pincus feet?). Her level of conversation pretty much surpasses her parents' now, and her imagination and reasoning are just a crack-up. Here are some of my favorites from this summer:

Senna: Daddy, don't forget your iPod!
Mommy: What is an iPod, Senna?
Senna: When you have something in your eye, it's a little pod you put on your eye and POP it out!!

Senna: Mommy, you have a baby growing in your uterus?
Mommy: Yes, a tiny, tiny baby growing in my uterus, like a little warm house inside my belly.
Senna: I have a baby in my uterus, too.
Mommy: You do?
Senna: Yes! And actually (she says actually a lot) I have FIVE babies in my uterus! Who will catch them when they pop out?

Mommy: I love you, Sen.
Senna: Thanks for loving me, Mommy.

And, Sen's favorite pastime of the summer has been making up stories, which always being with, "So! One day..." Her whole cadence changes, and we know we're in for a wild ride!

Love the pictures!!! She looks like such a different girl than when we saw her! You can tell Senna that "actually" is one of Ezra's favorite words too!
